Delhi Water Shortage past 1 day: Supreme Court Orders Himachal to Release Extra Water

Delhi Water Shortage The Supreme Court has stepped in to help Delhi deal with its water crisis. On Friday, it ordered the Himachal Pradesh government to release 137 cusecs of surplus water to the capital. This decision came with a stern warning to the Delhi government to prevent any wastage of this precious resource.

Himachal Pradesh has agreed to release the surplus water, and the Haryana government has been instructed to facilitate its flow through the Wazirabad barrage. The court emphasized that Himachal must notify Haryana before releasing the water.

The Supreme Court’s intervention follows the Delhi government’s plea last week for additional water from neighboring states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh. With the intense heatwave, Delhi is facing a severe water shortage.

To combat the crisis, the AAP-led Delhi government has imposed strict measures to prevent water wastage, including a ₹2,000 fine for violators.
